Have a seat

Earlier this week I got on the MAX in Beaverton to go to the Portland Art Museum. It was full and there were no open seats. A man who looked to be in his 40’s stood and offered me his. I am 75 and, although he didn’t know it, have back pain when I stand for too long.

This simple gesture reminded me how a small act of kindness can make such a difference in how I feel. I thought about it for the rest of the day. And still, several days later, I’m touched by this affirming act of being seen and acknowledged.  We all want that.
