On Friday, October 28, a handful of students from Hough Elementary in Vancouver surprised the nearly 500 students and staff at Lincoln Elementary, just 20 blocks away, with a token of friendship. Each and every person at Lincoln got a Happy Packet; which includes an inspiring message hand-drawn by a Hough student, a chocolate kiss, a jolly rancher and a card from The Joy Team.
The character trait for October at Hough is friendship. The students have been focusing on what it means to be a good friend and how the way we care for each other matters. October also happens to be National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. What better way to celebrate and acknowledge these than with a thoughtful gift to a neighboring school.
The Happy Packet delivery was made by roughly a dozen Hough Elementary students that make up the official Jr Joy Team roster at the school. The Jr Joy Team at Hough is a collaboration between The Joy Team, a local positive thought organization, and Hough Elementary. With monthly meetings open to every child at the school to talk about small things the kids can do to experience more happiness in their lives and share it with others, this group also works on projects that spread joy out in their community.
